A nutritious breakfast smoothie full of antioxidants, healthy fats and fibre.

This year my new years resolutions started with a 14-day Nutrition boost challenge. 14 days of smoothies, green juices and nutritional soups. Starting my day with a nutrient dense smoothie makes me feel light, but feeling full from the fiber content.

All in all a delicious way to start off your day!

WHY IS IT BENEFICIAL TO START THE DAY WITH A SMOOTHIE?

Blended food is easier to digest which allows the body to start releasing energy quicker. Plus the fruit and vegetables are packed with vital nutrients.

However make sure to not overload the smoothie with too many sugary ingredients.

TO MAKE THIS YOU NEED

  • frozen or fresh bananas

  • frozen or fresh blueberries

  • almond or oat milk or milk of choice

  • almond butter

  • oats

  • protein powder (optional)

  • water or more almond milk

  • sprinkle with hemp seeds for extra protein (optional)

THE HEALTH BENEFITS

BLUEBERRIES

Blueberries are very high in antioxidants and are therefor good for the skin. They may help maintain eye health, regulate blood sugars and may help prevent heart diseases.

Blueberries aren't just brain food, but they are also good for heart health, improving your memory and learning skills.

BANANA

Bananas help support a healthy gut, boost energy levels and may help support a good mood.

Bananas are a great source of potassium which can help with muscle recovery.

Bananas may also lower anxiety and stress.

Tip! the riper the banana the more nutrients it has.

Using frozen bananas will give your smoothie a thicker consistency.

ALMONDS

Almonds provide heart healthy fats, fiber and plant-based protein. They also contain Vitamin E and magnesium. The vitamin E can help protect cells from damages which can lead to premature aging and diseases. It also helps reduce inflammation.

Just like blueberries, almonds are a great source of antioxidants which is good for the skin.

TIP! Most of the antioxidants are found in the brown layer of the almond skin. Therefor eat the almonds with the skin for maximum antioxidant intake.

OATS

Oats are a great source of fiber and contain plant-based protein. They also help lower cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar and are a slow release energy food. Oats will help you feel fuller for longer which may help manage your weight. It also help promote healthy bacteria for the gut and provide antioxidants.

ADDITIONAL ADD INS (Optional)

  • Flax seeds or flax oil

  • Chia seeds

  • Hemp seeds

  • Spinach or kale

  • vegan yoghurt for extra creaminess

TIP! If you like a smoothie with a thick consistency use frozen fruit and add less liquid.
